Intensive thought process was involved in creation of this artwork.
White sand, gravel, and Bonsai trees have long represented the Japanese Zen Gardens. As the painting depicts, sand is raked in the form representing waves over water to initiate meditation. Look closely on each hand on the Bonsai tree is a leaf which will show you a different form of Mudra Meditation. Koan means a riddle, a story. Follow the stem of the Lotus to unfold the riddle of the painting.

This painting expresses its own story of a meditation technique in the 'Land of the Rising Sun'.
