It is very easy for an artist to be intimidated by the sight of the tulips fields of the Netherlands. There is so much in-your-face colour that to depict them in any way that doesn't seem as if the artist is undergoing a hallucinogenic experience in a factory that manufactures kaleidoscopes is difficult. This artist has lived close to the tulip fields for nearly 20 years but this is only the second picture of the phenomenon he has painted. These five horizontal blocks of colour were captured one evening as the sun went down. No one was around. In this part of the world the astonishing sight of fields such as this is no big deal. The blooms don't last long. And then they are gone, until next year.
