Artist's description:

The woodlouse goes by many names including, armadillo bug, boat-builder, butcher boy, carpenter, cheeselog, chiggy pig, granny grey, pill bug, roll up bug, roly-poly, wood bug etc. etc.
This beloved isopod crustacean is relative to the shrimp, recognised the world over and given many affectionate names. Some of my earliest childhood memories are collecting them in my garden, waiting for them to curl up into a ball so I could roll them around before letting them go about their way.

This small oil painting is on a pre-stretched canvas without backing. It can simply sit within a frame, or potentially be attached to a board of the same size. The painted area is 27cm x 19cm (10.6in x 7.5in), and canvas size just fractionally larger at 29.5cm x 21cm (11.6in x 8.2in)

Materials used:

Rembrandt, Old Holland oil paints, various brushes

Woodlouse, pill bug, roly-poly, wood bug, isopod crustacean (2016)
