Artist's description:

This monotype print was created during a residency in West Somerset at Contains Art in Watchet. The view seen from the quay looks over to Wales and the enchanted landscape beyond towards the Brecon Beacons. This print explores the view seen and the colours as they changed throughout the days being there.

The colours were chosen and mixed in the tray constantly, capturing the shifting tones I saw whilst creating the print. Each layer has been applied, building up into a sheen that mimics the movement of water, as though it has become part of the make-up of the image.

The print in a unique one off print exploring the relationships between painting and printmaking and the marks being made to be transferred to the Wansbrough Mill paper, made at the Wansbrough Mill situated in Watchet before it closed. The brown paper was used for making brown paper bags. Here, I have used the paper as the printing surface highlighting the area of Watchet, its past industry in the post-industrial and post-digital age.
