The painting is inspired by a view from St Ives looking towards Gwithian. It was mid afternoon and the cumulonimbus clouds hanging over St Ives Bay were quite spectacular. The cloud formations were casting a shadow over Gwithian whilst the shallow waters off Bamaluz Beach was in full sunlight.
