Original artwork description
Tiger
Award-Winning & Published Original Pastel Painting
Tiger is an original pastel wildlife portrait celebrating the extraordinary power, beauty and unmistakable presence of one of the world's most magnificent big cats.
In this portrait, I wanted to capture the tiger's strength without relying on action or aggression. The stillness of the composition allows its expression, distinctive markings and powerful character to become the focus.
The tiger's gaze creates an immediate sense of presence, while the intricate pattern of stripes gives the portrait its rhythm and structure. Each marking was carefully developed to follow the natural form and direction of the animal's coat.
The artwork was created entirely by hand using professional artist-quality pastels on paper. I gradually built the portrait through many layers, combining soft tonal transitions with extremely fine pastel strokes to create depth, texture and the natural softness of the fur.
For me, wildlife realism is about more than technical accuracy. My aim is to capture something of the animal's individuality and spirit — creating a portrait that feels alive and allows the viewer to experience its presence.
