This is from a scene of Nikiya, the tragic temple dancer from the classic and beautiful ballet La Bayadere.
I loved this pose capturing the tragedy of her lost love and the flash of red chiffon on her costume symbolising her passion.
All my ballet paintings are taken from life and my own backup work and photography. I am there in the moment capturing the essence of the dance.
