The overall image of lovers asleep is in very subdued tones of brown, blue, russet and green. but on closer scrutiny there are a lot more layers to the image: a woman's face is receding in three stages, a movent of her face upwards through time and light. Her face begins subtly near the man's chest and the blue scent threads upwards through her nostrils, rising, winding around her uprised arm to the calm female face overlooking the tree on the middle right.
Up abover her raised hand is a brighter spirit who presides over the top of the image with a landscape suggestion to the middle right. A descending set of profiles float downwards to the man's face, so creating a flow of faces.
In contrast to all the subdued tones are some vividly coloured blue flowers near the bottom of the drawing.
