A perfect day. The perfect horse and rider. A perfectly crazy race across the sand dunes. A photographers dream moment.
Hooper's location search for his 1976 August Playboy pictorial "Sex in the Great Outdoors" took him to the Beatty sand dunes near Death Valley where he met "Chief" the horse. Chief was not a show horse or a race horse or a particularly unique horse, but he stood still up on that dune by himself and stayed wherever we put him. While Hooper chased the light, he walked and ran, saddled and bare without complaint. And taught us all the value of a good horse. Hail, Chief!
A 36x24 black & white image printed on archival photographic paper.
35mm film, hi-res digital scan, archival photographic paper, lustre finish
