The initial layers of this artwork have been built up and blurred, creating a soft daydreamy atmosphere. This is then partially overpainted, boldly expressing the dark streak across the lake surface, taking your eye and thoughts towards the receding trees that lighten in the distance. Sunshine is falling on the mid ground, breaking through the light cloud in the sky. This highlights the deep shadow beneath the trees, recreating the feeling of standing beside the water, gazing across the lake.
