Original artwork description:

Russian artist Kasimir Malevich (1879-1935), the founder of the Suprematism, was fond of highly overblown enigmatic statements about his highly underblown and relatively simple art movement, which basically comprised squares and circles in a limited range of colours. How about this about his infamous painting 'Black Square' which comprised...er...a black square: 'The square is not a subconscious form. It is the creation of intuitive reason. The face of the new art. The square is a living, regal infant. The first step of pure creation in art.' Or this: 'In the year 1913, trying desperately to free art from the dead weight of the real world, I took refuge in the form of the square.' Malevich was as good at PR as he was at painting. But not everyone was convinced of his lofty claims. One critic described Suprematism as 'a sermon of nothingness and destruction'. Ouch! (The artist would sell this picture and its twin Suprematism Made Easy for €1500, ie 20% discount for both pictures)
