A warm and serene still life painting depicting an 18th century ale mug illuminated by a shaft of afternoon sunlight. This work was inspired by the calm, pleasantly drowsy feeling of a late afternoon in summer, which I chose to illustrate through the placement of a single custard-yellow ale mug upon a warmly hued background. I created the effect of a shaft of sunlight by allowing the entire painting to dry, then scumbling over specific areas with a mixture of pure Naples yellow and linseed oil.
