My first 'Owl Eyes' painting measuring 6x12". Painted on lightly textured black leather and mounted on a box frame and ready to wall hang.

The subject is a Spotted Eagle Owl.

This box framing style is used on many of my innovative 'Art on Leather' paintings.

The painting can be edge-framed at a later date if you so wish.

The reason for using leather as a medium to paint on is often asked. In this case as with all of my leather art, the leather hide chose is not by accident. The texture and colour must add to the composition, in this case the size of texture perfectly added to the semi-3D effect. Some artists prepare the ground to give texture. I use the natural and random texture of leather in the same way.

The painting process I have developed over the past 10+ years has enabled me to exploit a feature that many mediums avoid. My leather art is not behind glass. The process and materials I use means that the leather art is waterproof and should be seen and appreciated - including touching as you can sculpture. I paint art on leather jackets as well so the process is well proven.
