Original artwork description:

A simple composition of bold, textured brush strokes in dark pink, forming a mysterious symbol. The simple composition is evocative of pop art, while the bold, graphic shapes reference my background as a graphic designer.

This piece is part of my “Signs & Symbols” series, which has its roots in my work as a graphic designer and my love of typography. I’m attracted to type: line, form and stroke. I think that images alone can’t tell the full story of a visual idea. I believe that symbols, or type (actual or imagined), add to the depth of any story or narrative I’m trying to convey. Working quickly, and with no real intention or meaning, I made these graphic forms — a calming, meditative practice that reveals ideas for future works.

“Signs & Symbols Pink (2)” is an acrylic work on paper. This piece would make a statement on its own, but would also pair well with its other “Sign & Symbols Pink” siblings as part of a striking gallery wall.

My work is a mix of many things, and created in a number of ways. Sometimes viscerally — with brush in hand —fueled by loud music, emotion and caffeine, other times it’s more meditative, working in a deliberate fashion. Part of my process is the naming each piece, or series of pieces, and as a lover of words and language, I often feel that a piece or series is not complete until a name is crafted.
