“Shifting Greens” is one in a series of works that was inspired by the satellite imagery of Google Earth. When looking at that site, different patterns emerge in the aerial landscape as you scroll closer or farther from the earth’s surface image. This painting is an abstraction of that information with no particular location in mind. Land and water masses, groupings of color that indicate population centers, collaged elements of lines that suggest transportation routes help create this composition that stands on its own as a simple composition.
Many layers of thinly laid acrylic paint over collaged papers result in a depth of surface and luminous quality. When the painting part is mostly finished I use materials such as cut paper, mat board corrugated cardboard, textured paint scraps and Styrofoam strings for additional descriptive textural elements. Oil pastel highlights are added at the end and the process is finished with a clear acrylic varnish for surface protection
acrylic paint, oil pastel, cut and altered papers, mat board, cardboard, glass beads, netting
