This is an oil pastel and charcoal study of my male form. The image explores how I see my own torso and face, which I come back to once a year as I grow older.
The image explores mixing two materials and the interaction between them, as I scrutinise my own form and how I perceive it. Through all the mental interactions that shift the way we view ourselves - each thought we have can change the way we see ourselves, our form and the shape of our body. Through the process of creating these portraits, they allow me to not only delve into how I feel about looking at my own body and its changes, through the light, colour, form, but also how my thoughts determine the reality of what I see and how the perceptions are shaped through the mark I make on the surface.
