An homage to and inspired by Caravaggio and the RNLI. The painting is intended to start a dialogue both with modern cultural imagery and the perceptions and symbolism of classical Baroque art. I often use paintings by the old masters as a starting point from which I then playfully but reverently deviate. I find figurative painting can contain infinite possibilities, so by embracing Renaissance and Baroque painters I incorporate their style to depict my subjects in a contemporary art construct while referencing mythology, art history in a discontinuous composition that challenges straitforward Interpretation. An example of this in the clouds forming the unmistakable Pembrokeshire coastline.
