Original artwork description:

Ratus is an ethnic sculpture on root wood worked by time and abandoned in a corner of the earth...

It represents a kind of rodent or small wild rat perched on a piece of wood, with its mouth open and with the look of a frightened hyena...

It belongs to the Ostreides series, which expresses the complexity of life in its search for the most appropriate form for survival, as well as the wisdom of the mind applied to the transformation of matter.

Ratus has been worked and carved with a gouge in wood cleaned of impurities and weaknesses to give it its final form, and completed with surfine wood pulp where necessary, then stained with water-soluble oil paint. A light coat of marine varnish is applied at the end to fix the wood and protect the work.

The base is homemade with thick wood sanded and painted then varnished, and a large old rusty iron nail hammered into the wood which gives it all its charm.

Dimensions with base: H 30 x W 9 x D 10 cm

Signed piece.

Materials: old root wood, surfaced wood cellulose, water-soluble oil paint, protective marine varnish.

Materials used:

forest wood, wood surfine cellulose, water soluble oil paint, varnish
