Original artwork description:

Poule de paradis (Paradise hen) is an original and unusual painting-sculpture wall hanging in the form of an Egyptian cartouche, made from natural bird feathers collected after moulting from a lady who loves her birds and her animals.

A magnificent female bird with bronze, green and brown golden feathers and blue and green peacock eyes stands close to her chick, a large ball of slightly pale salmon cream fur with a frightened look, seeking protection from her mother...

This painting evokes maternity and the mother hen side, as much as the beauty of the plumage of certain birds such as peacocks and birds of paradise (this one's made up!).

The birds were sculpted and recreated in meticulous thread-by-thread collage from natural peacock feathers, then glued to a lining of weathered ecru ironing board, lined at the back with Japanese cotton fabric and stiffened at the top with a thin bamboo rod for hanging.

Dimensions: H 57 x W 39 x D 2 cm

Materials: natural molted ostrich, peacock and down feathers, thick ironing cloth, cotton fabric

Materials used:

bird feathers, cotton
