As the driving force behind the most successful factual television programme (insert Clarksonian pause) in the world, Jeremy Clarkson invented a form of entertainment that transcends culture and language barriers.
Rather than attempting a likeness, this portrait pays homage to Clarkson by presenting him as a superhero in a bright world of petrol, flames, TV lights and spectators.
I started this painting in 2012. Hundreds of late nights spent restarting, repainting and refining. By January 2015 it was close to its current state. January to August 2015 was spent fine-tuning. I believe that every square inch of a painting - even in isolation from the rest of the painting - should be fun to look at. To that end I tend to spend months in fine-tuning mode before signing my name. By August 2015 I arrived at a point where I could not find anything that could be improved further.
Oil on canvas, stretched. The painting comes with a substantial frame, visible in one of the photos.
