Someone has slept on the bed, sat on the chair, placed objects on the table, and left a book on the picnic mat. The scene is composed, yet the stark contrast in colour and lingering shadows create an underlying sense of anxiety. The bed and the chair are supposedly objects of comfort, yet there is a stiffness and hardness about them. The clock suggests frozen time. The squareness of the composition suggests that the person who lives in this space perhaps felt a sense of imprisonment. Perhaps while lying on his bed, this person has dreamt about having a relaxing picnic at the park, escaping from the chains of his mundane life.
