Original artwork description:

Phasianidae is part of the Ostreides series, which expresses the complexity of life in its search for the most appropriate form for survival, as well as the wisdom of the mind applied to the transformation of matter.

It is a sculpture of a strange woman, or rather a fantastic female creature, half-mermaid, who seems to be stranded on dry land, with a skirt that fans out like a peacock's wheel.

She takes her name from the Phasianidae family, which includes birds such as peacocks, pheasants, partridges, quails and related species.

Its skirt was made from the solid wood of a fungus called amadouvier, found dead and hard at the foot of a tree and kept for 2 years under observation until its hardness proved itself. This wood-decomposing fungus has long been used to heal wounds and light fires.

Surfine wood cellulose, modelled and then painted, completes the sculpture to form the bust and part of the skirt details.

Signed under the wood.

Dimensions around: H 21 x W 26 x D 23 cm

Materials used:

wood, fungus wood, wood surfine cellulose
