Part of "ADstraction", abstract figuration studies and portraits on book pages, studies offer a glimpse into the artist’s creative process. Each work is created as a visual footnote expressing or exploring an idea or concept. Study elements, such as line, color, form, perspective, and composition are observed and applied in large works on canvas. This piece created with ink, acrylic, and painted with palette knives and acrylic markers. Each page depicts a hybrid between journal entries and advertisement, with energetic abstractions bursting with color. De las Mercedes references personal notes and emotional topics in human relationships found in everyday life and books, to create psychologically-charged imagery.
