This tiny flower has petals that are only an inch long. The way they are curved, first like little trough, and then up towards the center of the blossom told me immediately it would be a good subject for a 3-Dimensional study. I knew that with a flower this small, I would be moving in close with the lens, and that consequently the 3-Dimensionality would be even more enhanced. I wasn't happy with the color of the flower however, a kind of greenish white, so in the end I made it a sweet, inviting pink. By lighting it from above and slightly behind, I was able to send some light in to give the center a glow and make the lower petals seem to be coming from out of the shadows, further enhncing the 3-D effect. The black background makes it come out of the darkness towards the viewer.
This is image comes as a limited edition of 25-30x30 inch archival prints on artist’s canvas. It’s a great size that really ‘hold’s’ a wall. It comes ready to hang, with a certificate of authenticity on the back. Even though it is a photograph, people often compliment me on what a beautiful ‘painting’ it is.
