Original artwork description:

This is 'Midnight Beauty' leopard that has been painted on smooth black leather and in a substantial black wood frame. Framed measurements approx 23" x 35.5" (59cm x 91cm) and is framed as per the image.

The reason for using leather as a medium to paint on is often asked. In this case as with all of my leather art, the leather hide chose is not by accident. The texture and colour must add to the composition, in this case the size of texture perfectly added to the semi-3D effect. Some artists prepare the ground to give texture. I use the natural and random texture of leather in the same way.

The painting process I have developed over the past 10+ years has enabled me to exploit a feature that many mediums avoid. My leather art is not behind glass. The process and materials I use means that the leather art is waterproof and should be seen and appreciated - including touching as you can sculpture. I paint art on leather jackets as well so the process is well proven.

So if you are looking for art that is innovative this could be what you are looking for..

With sincere thanks to Lauren Cohen photographer (President of 'The Gift Of Hope' USA) for giving permission to use one of her photographs as source reference material. A donation will be made to her Charity on the sale of this painting.

Painting fur means building up the background colours then adding dozens of 'spots' - each needs to be correctly sized and orientated in the natural flow of the animal's fur. It then takes many of layers of paint with many different colours to create the form of the fur - but the end result is worth the many hours of creating the texture effect.

This painting does not require any glass - the leather is sealed to protect the image. So there will not be any 'reflections' or 'shadows' to spoil your viewing.

I do ship to most countries, given the current complexities over some major carriers limiting destinations, differing import tax rates let alone COVID & Brexit etc I have limited the international shipping of my listings. If you are seriously interested in a piece and you are outside the UK please message me here through Artfinder and I can work out a bespoke shipping quote for you. I will endeavour to find out and include import duty (if applicable) as well so you will have full visibility of costs with the added benefit of art not being subject to a 'customs delay'.
