In December 2004 I visited New York for the first time and whilst on the ferry to Staten Island, I took the photograph on which this painting is based. It was a very cold but truly beautiful day and the sun twinkled on the distant buildings, making very impressive reflections on the water. "Manhattan Impressions" is worked partly with the palette knife to give a rich texture to the oil paint and create an overall abstract expression.
The exceptionally low price for an oil painting is because I have kept to its original price tag dating more than 10 years.
