Original artwork description:

Another work inspired by the studies of Lygia Clark on planes and lines. I'm looking for how the black and white solids and lines in Lygia Clark's work can relate to a Matisse-like figure, since both of them live in a two dimensional realm, but are derived from our experience in the three dimensional realm.

Here we have two squares that floats above a black plane. One small square sits on the top left of the canvas, while the other bigger one is cropped by the canvas. The figure lies on top of the bigger square, looking away from the small square. This gives the piece a motion from the top left to the bottom right, as the small square tries to enter the bigger square and the figure looks away, as if it tries to be oblivion to the small square motion.

Made with Acrylic paint mixed with chalk to give texture to the surface.

OBS: All works made on canvas, that leaves the Brazilian frontiers, need to go through a check with the IPHAN, the national institute for the historical and artistic patrimony, to prevent contraband of artwork to the black market. This process takes two weeks. The work then will be shipped via FedEx.

Materials used:

Acrylic on 100% cotton canvas
