Artist's description:

This print represents a scene set in the limestone quarry of Tunstead, Derbyshire. The stone has been quarried on the site since the Middle Ages. The association of Man and limestone is long, and the same material forms our bones. Most traces of early Man indicate an existence in limestone areas and the landscape most people seem to think best is characteristically a limestone landscape. Today, wherever we live, limestone is present in the mortar, concrete and glass. We may not be in glorious rolling countryside but faithful limestone is always with us.
