Original artwork description:

Twilight glows through rolling storm clouds in Long Beach on the Southern California coast. This exploding light show only lasted moments.

Working from a reference photo, I was challenged by the complexity of color-layers in this twilight sky. I added thin layers of oil paint to the work. Then I set it aside, occasionally glancing at it to see if I was close to achieving my desired effect. For a couple of months I went back and forth from dark to light, saturated to muted colors, until I knew that my feelings when looking at the painting were the same as when I experienced that twilight sky in person—awe, wonder, joy, amazement, calm. I hope the viewer will feel the same.

This work is rendered in many layers of oil paint on gallery-wrapped canvas.
