Original artwork description:

This is the first in a collection of drawings and paintings done “en plein air” on a recent trip to the beautiful Sun Moon Lake with my wife over Christmas. Sun Moon Lake is one of my favorite places to visit with lots of great scenery, hiking, walking and biking trails to enjoy around the lake, it is also Taiwan’s largest fresh water lake situated in Nantou County. As we visited in December the weather was cool and misty most of the time, creating many beautifully atmospheric scenes. The winter weather in Taiwan is very similar to a nice British summers day, warm or hot in the sun and a little chilly in the shade. The emerald/jade green lake and high surrounding mountains create amazing scenes that change constantly depending on the weather and time of day. From the the first moment we arrived until we left I was constantly blown away and inspired by the ever changing views that Mother Nature was providing! From misty morning mountains at sunrise with daylight peaking through the clouds onto the water to bright sunshine and misty evenings with lights reflected through the fog. It is an amazing place!
This Oil Pastel on Black Paper drawing was done “en plein air“ from our balcony on the first evening we arrived. We were staying in Swaysur and it was a little misty so the view across the lake towards Ida Saou was a little blurry as the lights danced in and out of the mist. The colours of the lights would reflect on the water and mist creating interesting scenes.
