Original artwork description:

An Adelie penguin looks out trying to attract the attention of the photographer and of the wider audience - US .
She is trying to let us know that however cute she may look with continued rise in temperatures, her species will diminish further in numbers and may disappear off this planet completely.

In the initial stages of the painting I deliberately used warm yellows and neon colours to depict the rising warmth around her environment in South Georgia. The lighter blue hues of the sky were painted with lots of glaze medium to ensure the warmth kept penetrating/shining through. As temperatures continue to rise due to climate change.

I left those colours on the ground, rock areas.

Huge thanks go to Catrin Thomas my friend and photographer of the original shot. Who spends months living amongst these amazing creatures, documenting their lifestyles and measuring their existence and other scientific factors.

Materials used:

acrylic paints, gel medium, varnish
