Fields of Joy, acrylic and enamel on canvas 200 x 120 x 2 cm on two panels each measuring 100 x 120 x 2 cm I remember fields of Joy. I walk among the flowers. They shimmer and glimmer in the sunlight, a tapestry of colour. Too bright, I squint my eyes. Childhood memories of laughing and shouting. I hear the echo of innocence. I lay down in the colour fields. Twigs and stalks scratch my arms. The sunlight warms my face and I look up at powder blue skies and vibrant pink flowers. These fields bring me peace. In Fields of Joy I wanted to capture the warmth of childhood summers and the large expanse of flower fields I remember stretching over the countryside. I decided to break up the lines of colour to create texture and movement in the painting and to reflect my abstract memories of that time. Gold paint glints through the undergrowth and suggests refracted sunlight. Using an expressionist style of paint application the artwork is loose and carefree but creates an impressionist vision of floral fields. The stripe of the flower planting brings a modern twist to the colourful landscape. Fields of Joy.
