This dry point etching is of an African American farm labourer circa 19th Century. The image was drawn on an acrylic sheet and inked to create a dry point etching that retains the immediacy of the drawn line, creating a print that retains this aspect of drawing on an alternative surface, yet printed on thin banana paper as a Chine Colle. The banana paper was chosen due to the fruits links to slave labour and indentured contracts too.
These drawings are in-part resonating the past works of Gustave Courbet and Van Gogh (who was inspired by Courbet) and their drawings and painting associated with farm workers and seed sowers.
This image forms part of an ongoing series of works exploring Lost Generations and the human condition associated with indentured servitudes and aspects of slavery.
[There are only four print editions of this black and white line print left out of ten produced as part of '1 of many' charity postcard and are numbered as such with A, B, C, D]
Postcard prints arer in order: A, B, C, D. Message me which you prefer if available.
