This fallen idol is in fact a giant Beech tree which has fallen across the confluence of two footpaths. Painted during the Summer of 2012 I was struck by the light that creates heightened colours in the undergrowth and the leaves that pick up and reflect dappled sunlight. My primary palette is Viridian, Lemon Yellow, Alizarin Crimson and Cerulean and I want to avoid black to saturate colours. So the colours show a heightened sense impression of reality.
