Earth, as a fertile woman, connected to flowers.

The suggestion is of an umbilical cord attaching her to stylised flowers, winding around her hands and legs - but she is holding it willingly and tenderly. I wanted to get across the idea of depth, softness, strength, intensity, service, love, family, motherhood.

Drawn in richly coloured Artists quality chalk pastel.

I made this artwork when my youngest child was two years old - it was near the start of my long love affair with chalk pastels. I particularly loved using deep rich brown tones for bodies and adding contrast colours - like the very pale lavender and green in the flowers - then with little flash of red at the flower tips and between her legs.

Available unframed.
Wrapped in acid-free tissue, packed carefully and sent by Tracked Delivery.
