The Nordkette, the northern chain of the Karwendel Alps in Tyrol, is the impressive backdrop to the city of Innsbruck. I have painted it many times in different seasons and weather conditions, and it never ceases to fascinate me. This painting was created en plein air in autumn, with the first snow on the peaks as the sun's rays caused the early morning fog to dissipate. Crisp white snow contrasts against grey rock and a clear blue sky, while the warm colors of the larches and birches truly glow among the firs—a celebration of autumn in the mountains.
'Die Nordkette, Autumn Colors' was painted on high-quality 450g handmade watercolor paper from Hahnemühle, using Winsor & Newton paints. It comes accompanied by a certificate of authenticity in a warm white mount to fit a standard frame size of 40x60cm.
