Fine black volcanic sand from Greece was used as the black pigment in the primer. This primer gives the entire painting a unique soft surface.
This painting is all about light and shadow. By darkening the surrounding space and lighting the figure from the front left, the viewer's attention is drawn to the posture and movement.
As a top view without perspective, the painting can be rotated in any direction and is therefore signed on all four corners, as is the case with all top views by the artist. This perspective is unique in modern art, it enables the composition of the picture to be compressed and, since it is painted without foreshortening, reduces the motif to a concrete sign.
