Jerusalem was old even in the time of King David, who captured the city from the Jebusites, as we hear in 1 Chronicles 11:7, and he "dwelt in the fort and called it the City of David." In ancient times, the city and its Temple were the heart and soul of Israel, and remain so to this day. Jerusalem is also important to Christians, who visit the streets where Jesus, a Son of David, walked. The painting includes a Cross to commemorate His Crucifixion and Resurrection there. Jerusalem is important to Muslims as well. The exact location of the City of David was lost in the centuries after the destruction of the City by the Romans in 70 AD, but it was rediscovered in 1860, and excavations have been ongoing to the present. This abstract landscape was done in earth tones, with touches of royal purple (for King David). The image extends over all edges, so no frame is required, if the client wishes. Hanging hardware is already installed, and the painting has been given a satin varnish for protection.
