In 1963 Christine Keeler and Mandy Rice-Davies were called as witnesses in the dubious trial of Stephen Ward. The trial was an offshoot of the ‘Profumo Affair’, a political nightmare which was to breach many lives. Hitherto, these two friends with showbiz ambitions had remained fairly obscure but during the trial the media inflicted upon them a widespread notoriety. Languishing at home afterwards, Christine found it difficult to live down her past, while Mandy traded on her public persona and made a new life overseas.
This print is pulled from an engraving cut from a sheet of rubber, a variation of letterpress. After removal of areas that are to be left as white paper, the rubber sheet is then rolled up with ink and pressed to paper, producing the print. The technique does not accommodate reprinting, so the edition is forever fixed at 5 copies.
This print will fit straight into a 12 x 10 inch frame.
