On my travels in Buenos Aires I stumbled across the remarkable and beautiful ‘Casa de los Lirios’, an art nouveau building in heart of the city inspired by and decorated by iris forms. The soft curves of the undulating façade, the iris leaf-like wrought-iron balconies and entrance all celebrate the beauty of the iris flower. In my painting I have chosen to bring the building’s stone irises to life, imbuing them with their characteristic purple and yellow.
