The Welsh Hills surround me, amaze me, delight me. My Welsh Hills series of works develop directly from my experience of the place where I am.
This work contains a hand-drawn landscape of a Welsh Valley as it reaches the sea, enclosed in a frame as if looking through a window, transforming the work into a homely, domestic scene - an icon for the home, a hearth altarpiece.
I drew this landscape directly onto the original glass slab in bronze-laden ink, which burns away in the kiln as the glass is cast, leaving fine lines of bronze embedded within and staining the glass panel itself. I've then worked the image further, adding colour and other stains, before laminating and mirroring it within its solid wood box frame. It's ready to hang, or place on a mantle, where it will gather and reflect light, seemingly brighter than its surroundings.
