Original artwork description:

An original Italian Roman landscape painting of villas surrounded by a wonderful assortment of Italian cypress trees and the amazing Borghese Gardens. I discovered this view from our rooftop garden at the Hotel Piranesi near the Piazza Del Popolo in Rome. The weather that spring was already hot and there were passing thunderstorms. I worked to capture the nature of this light with the dramatic, yet softly lit clouds and sky.
This painting has been painted with a lot of attention to detail, light and shadow give the trees a lot of definition and the villas are interestingly positioned throughout the composition. I painted this in watercolor, then a small oil painting and now have completed this larger 30" x 30" painting of this scene which is close to my heart.
Even though this is an oil painting, it is reminiscent of the watercolor sketch that I did first because of the soft brushwork and clean lines between the colors.
