Artist's description:

This painting is more about the atmosphere created by the weather than a sketch of a blue boat. In the background, the trees are shrouded in mist and the water is hazy and choppy. The style of the work is sketchy and impressionistic with dabs of colour and charcoal drawing on top to create the idea of the woodland, yet swirly shapes in purple and blue for the sea. Loose and informal but with a strong presence of the boat dominating the scene.

I love painting boats especially sailing vessels, the shape of the hull and the mast must have just the right proportion. It's always a challenge and each one has it's own beauty. The boat is called Rebecca and is moored at the Crinan boatyard on the west coast of Scotland.

Drawn en plein air with charcoal and painted in acrylic on watercolour paper.
