The limited palette of the subject matter allowed me to experiment with different shades of gray. I used warmer grays to pull areas of the painting forward, and cooler shades to push it back. The abstraction of the ground was a lot of fun to paint. I enjoy being able to abstract a background, while having a crystal clear focus up front. A focal point allows me to play around with shapes and colors that surround it. Both my realistic side and my abstract side were satisfied with this painting.
