When I first envisaged this series, I was playing with the idea of how often a birds-eye view can be reflected in close-up images of the subject itself. Consider the idea of fractals and mandelbrots, for example. I love the way that the scattering of colour across a canvas is seen in different ways by each person and with this series gives a different feel with the changing light throughout the day by my use of metallic and gold leaf with the interesting application of the paint.
I have followed the first two paintings in the series, focussing on the sea, with my other passion – nature. Inspired by an autumn sunset, the leaves dancing on the wind and scattered on the ground, I have blended the colours of the decaying leaves with those of the warming sun to represent how nature will turn full circle and bring new life in the spring.
This visually stunning piece combines a mix of both metal and gold leaf with acrylic paint applied using a feather and all that a brush has to offer an artist!
