Original artwork description:

Illustrating the Cosmopolitan Magazine Horoscope page throughout 1990 was the favourite illustration project of my early career.
From the mid 1980s I'd already worked on various book covers, but to get to work on a set of twelve images was very exciting for me - especially one that reflected my love of Mythology!

Aquarius, the Water Carrier, is an Air sign so I have positioned her as a goddess in the sky with her hair flowing in the breeze, high above the green land.

She wears an Aquarius "symbol" as her earring and her rings are the symbol for the ruling planets, Neptune and Saturn. Her hair is flowing, as is the water directly pouring from her hands.

It is drawn in Rembrandt and Sennelier chalk pastels on 300gsm Somerset paper with a lovely deckled edge. I've deliberately kept the colours cool in this drawing but with a little flash of red for her lips and I've used a little bit of silver here and there too catch the light: on her jewellery and in the flowing water.

Looking at her again after all these years I realise I based her looks on one my neighbouring artists who was Aquarius, American*, tall with long hair. (At that time I lived in the well-known "Beck Road" which was a street of short-life housing and studio space for artists (see the photo on the reverse of the drawing).

Ten of the series sold after they were published and while I still lived in London.
They are now in Australia, UK and the Ireland. Over the years I kept Aquarius and Scorpio aside (Aquarius is both my ex's and also my second husband's sign; mine is Scorpio); Scorpio sold privately to a collector in 2011 and now I feel it is time to let Aquarius go too. All 12 images can be seen on my website Illustration page.
*In the Libra of this series I've drawn the same artist's ornate earring.

Available unframed.
I've mocked up a Photoshop image of how the drawing might look framed.
