As an artist I have a number of preoccupations. Drawing attention to the state of our planet and to the dramatically increasing damage we are inflicting on it, and, hence, on ourselves, at present, and lethally so for the future, is one of those.
A previous attempt with a similar title missed the mark by a wide margin. Here the goal is to combine the antique, which has survived for so long, which will not survive acid rain and the like, unless we act quickly, and substantially reform our ways, will destroy this prized object, so symbolic of our civilization. The civil in civilization is, of course, an irony. We are not civil to our environment, nor to our home, this incomparably beautiful planet upon which we sit. The beauty of the original of this statue, therefore, stands for the gorgeousness of our globe.
