In this serie the Dutch artst investigated the ephemeral and the play of light in layered clouds of acrylic colorfields.
Because of the absence of outlines that indicate form in these artworks,
the viewer receives an open invitation to construct the image themselves.
The gestural strokes give an extraordinary live to the otherwise centred composition of this partial portrait that consist of stylized red lips and a delicate nose.
The translucent colorfields remind the public of watercolor,
but the artist has used the far more durable acrylic paint as her medium.
The dripping technique that van Steen had used for years in the serie "Beauties" has returned in this serie and adds another layer of intuitive gesture to the final artwork.
This painting comes in a white box-frame and is ready to hang.
