A stunning view of an Alpine village from our holiday balcony meant I had to miss a day or two ski-ing to create this painting. This was painted en plein air which was actually quite cold as you can imagine! The town of Brides-les-bains is a spa town very close to the Meribel ski resort so although there is usually no snow there, it's easy to take a telecabine up to the snow. The French village houses are beautiful with a variety of colours and shapes but all with wonderful overhanging roofs.
The paint I have used is Golden open acrylic which works very much like oil paint. It stays workable for longer the standard acrylic. I like to use it when I am travelling around for ease of use. The colours are subtle browns and greens with purple and yellow ochre adding some contrast.
