Artist's description:

I first went to Abu Dhabi in 1986 where there was a most interesting old souk which was sadly ravaged by fire. I returned in 2003 to find the old souk had largely disappeared. I made this sketch looking back at the city. Abu Dhabi always has a buzz about the place, it was sad to see the demise of the souk. I remember my wife asking a trader how much for an article. She presented him the sum he asked for. He replied "Oh no madam, you must barter". She became really expert at bartering.

Materials used:

300 gms watercolour paper W&N Professional Artist watercolour paint

Abu Dhabi City from the Old Souk site (2003)
